Dill Seed and Dill Weed
Dill seed and dill weed (Anethum graveolens) were first cultivated in Babylonia as far back as 3000 BC. The ancients believed dill had medicinal and even magical powers. The whole plant with immature seeds is known as dill weed. Dill seed is the dried ripe fruits of the plant. Dill is grown in the Northwest United States, Egypt, India, Germany, Poland, Hungary and Romania.
Dill is excellent in pickles, green salad, potatoes and lends an interesting flavor to lamb, stews, steaks and fish.
