Silver Cloud's Pure Hibiscus Extract (Hibiscus sabdariffa) has a tart, cranberry-like flavor. Hibiscus Extract can be used as a flavor, natural food coloring or herbal remedy. The sepals of Hibiscus, (also known as Roselle) are used as a vegetable in Mexico, Caribbean, Central and South America. They are also used to make herbal teas and jams. The sepals are green and lie under the more conspicuous petals of the flower. As a collective unit the sepals are called the calyce. Throughout Latin America, the drink known as "Jamaica" is very popular and is made directly from the calyces or from an extract. Both Jamaica and Hibiscus / Roselle tea are high in Vitamin C and contain many of the same beneficial compounds found in red wine including flavonoids, polyphenols and anthocyanins. These compounds have been shown in research to prevent oxidation of low lensity lipoproteins (LDL), or bad cholesterol. Hibiscus gives Red Zinger tea its distinctive tart flavor and red color.

Silver Cloud's Pure Hibisucs Extract does not contain any alcohol. It is a water extraction of the dried sepals of the plant. Our Pure Hibiscus Extract contains Hibiscus Flower Extractives, Water and Sodium Benzoate (as a preservative). This extract is sugar and gluten-free.
